As above i do tend to trust the horses mouth, and as i said i never felt any change in steering difference after fitting these pulleys.

Thanks for the response Adrian!

As usual all I remember is the post hoohaa rumpus, not the actual reason for it :D :D

Re harmonic dampers and dual mass resonator type crank pulleys.....
Mess at your own risk. It's a well known fact that the 2.5 Ford Duratec responds to solid crank pulleys by eating the crankshaft. Ford actually got it wrong in the original ST24 incarnation of the engine and gave it a tendancy to eat cranks if held at high rpm for a long time due to a resonance issue. The problem was (mostly) solved with a new DMD unit in the ST200 incarnation of the engine. If only they'd fixed the chocolate headgaskets too :(

So, in a nutshell, I'd rather run a possibly slightly overweight stock one than monkey with it and loose a crank

**edit
Although in a highly modified, dynamically balanced build I'd have a somewhat different view on this ;)

I am currently driving the car with no powersteering. After correcting my tire pressure, its really not that bad. Just when you are turning the wheel at a standstill. Since the car will be seeing more street driving than I planned, I am going to resolve the PS issue.

I am still leaning torwards the mr2 PS pump. I was looking as some pictures online and found its fittings are the same as the st205/185 ps pump. So it will be a matter of making a bracket.

I think I am going to wire it in directly and just add some resistors to lessen its effects. I do not need much ps assistance just enough at slow speeds.

I am trying to determine ways to increase overall feedback and feel of the steering. In the past I thought it was fine, but now my daily is a 350z and I feel that my 185s steering has much to be improved.

I think I will be starting with an alignment. I feel that my turn in might be affected by this. I am also concidering a smaller steeringn wheel.

You'd probably also find steering feedback improves muchly with poly bushes and a strut brace - stiffening that up takes up the slack so you get the feeling back t othe steering wheel :)

Also, I have the Fennies in mine and have done for ages, no discernible disadvantages but hopefully more oomph to the wheels. Removed my aircon aswell so that freed some up, aswell as reducing weight :)

Durability, who knows. I believe a few people have been running these things since they came out but that's still only a year or so at best. I'm sure I remember a hoo-haa somewhere about the response when someone asked Fennies if they had any material hardness specs for the kit

What sort of hoo-haa?
A "How dare you question us, we are GT4 gods" type hoo-haa, or "Oh, sorry, we don't know but we'll get back to you" hoo-haa?

I asked the question of hardness of the material, Tony replied with a "my car runs them, theyre fine" type statement.

I questioned more, Adrian gave a comprehensive answer but decided I was quesitoning Fensport's integrity.

The irony being, had Adrians post been the first one, the issue would have died there because it was a comprehensive answer to the question.

Bottom line, the kits have been out there long enough to be known to be durable.

[the above mentioned debate was on the OC forum in Nov 2004 btw  ]

I am kicking around the idea of removing the gtfour PS pump and using a mr2 electric PS pump. I will either put a dimmer switch on it to adjust the pumps strength...

Some years on I know, but I'm also thinking about this. Did you ever do it? And if you did can you remember anything to help me decide

I did come across a 185 with this done but I have no idea of detail. I think the pump was run flat out through a relay/fuse. A normal domestic dimmer switch wouldn't work for speed control, you'd need the control box and any sensors to go with the pump. It was troublesome but mainly down to bodged electrics.

Have a hunt on mr2oc and imoc for details.
